The Replacements were an American rock band formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1979 by brothers Bob and Tommy Stinson, Paul Westerberg and Chris Mars.
Initially emerging from the hardcore punk scene, the band evolved into one of the most influential alternative rock groups of the 1980s by blending punk, power pop, heartland rock and introspective songwriting.
Although commercial success largely eluded them during their original run, albums including ‘Let It Be’, ‘Tim’, ‘Pleased to Meet Me’ and ‘Don’t Tell a Soul’ established The Replacements as critics’ favourites and a major influence on the alternative rock explosion of the 1990s.
