The 1993 album Kate Bush needed to correct: “My better songs got lost”
Great songs lost to history.
Kate Bush was born in Kent in 1958, and ever since teaching herself how to play the piano as an 11-year-old, music was all she knew. From that age, Bush began making her own compositions, and it wasn’t long until the ‘Running Up That Hill’ singer caught the attention of EMI thanks to Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour.
EMI felt Bush was too young to release music immediately and allowed her to work on her craft before beginning work on her debut album, ‘The Kick Inside’. The record was released when she was only 19, and thanks to the lead single, ‘Wuthering Heights’, Bush became a teenage superstar with the world at her feet. To date, ‘The Kick Inside’ has sold over a million copies in the UK alone.
Bush is a serial record-breaker and is the first British woman to reach number one on the UK charts with a self-written song. As it stands, she has released 12 albums and sold millions of records worldwide. After a 35-year live hiatus, Bush returned to the stage at Hammersmith Apollo for a 22-date residency. Coincidentally, this was also where she played her final show before quitting touring.
In 2022, Bush returned to the top of the charts thanks to the inclusion of ‘Running Up That Hill’ in the Netflix hit programme, ‘Stranger Things’, which brought the song to the attention of a new generation. It became her second UK number-one single.
The opus of maximum effort.
“I dreamed of being able to play like him”.
The truly timeless classics.
