Fontaines DC’s Carlos O’Connell and Tom Coll have produced the new Film Noir album
A matter of the heart.

Fontaines D.C. is an Irish post-punk band that has earned international acclaim with its raw, energetic sound and poetic lyricism. Formed in Dublin in 2017, the band quickly became a significant figure in the contemporary music scene, known for their compelling performances and critically acclaimed albums. The group consists of Grian Chatten on vocals, Carlos O’Connell and Conor Curley on guitars, Conor Deegan III on bass, and Tom Coll on drums. The name Fontaines D.C. is a nod to the character Johnny Fontane from ‘The Godfather’, with “D.C.” standing for Dublin City, reflecting their deep connection to their hometown.
The members of Fontaines D.C. met while attending music college in Dublin and bonded over a shared love for both poetry and punk music. Their early influences included iconic bands like The Stooges and The Fall, as well as literary figures like James Joyce, which shaped their unique sound and literary approach to songwriting.
The band gained initial attention with a series of singles that showcased their gritty, urban poetry and energetic post-punk sound. However, it was their debut album ‘Dogrel’, released in April 2019, that marked their true breakthrough. ‘Dogrel’ was a critical and commercial success, receiving widespread acclaim for its vivid depiction of Dublin life and its raw, anthemic tracks like ‘Big’ and ‘Boys in the Better Land’.
Following the success of ‘Dogrel’, Fontaines D.C. released their sophomore album ‘A Hero’s Death’ in July 2020. This record marked a significant evolution in their sound, incorporating more introspective and melancholic elements while retaining their post-punk edge. Tracks like ‘A Hero’s Death’ and ‘Televised Mind’ reflected a deeper exploration of themes such as identity, existential angst, and the pressures of modern life.
Fontaines D.C.’s journey from the streets of Dublin to international stardom is a testament to their talent, dedication, and unique artistic vision. Their ability to blend raw, emotional lyricism with powerful post-punk instrumentation has set them apart in a crowded music landscape, earning them a place among the most respected and influential bands of the past decade.
As they continue to evolve and push the boundaries of their sound, Fontaines D.C. remains a vital force in the world of contemporary music, embodying the spirit of punk while exploring new musical and thematic territories. Their impact on the music industry and their growing legacy make Fontaines D.C. a band that will be remembered and celebrated for years to come.
