Courtney Barnett

Courtney Barnett is an Australian singer-songwriter and guitarist who has gained international acclaim for her unique blend of indie rock and folk music. Born in Sydney in 1987, Barnett began playing guitar at a young age and started writing her own songs in her late teens.

Barnett’s music is characterised by her witty and observational lyrics, which often explore themes of anxiety, depression, and everyday life. Her guitar playing is also a defining feature of her sound, with her distinctive style incorporating elements of garage rock, punk, and country music.

In 2013, Barnett released her debut EP, ‘I’ve Got a Friend Called Emily Ferris’, which was well-received by critics and helped her gain a following in Australia. She followed up with her debut album, ‘Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit’, in 2015, which received widespread critical acclaim and was nominated for a Grammy Award for ‘Best New Artist’.

Barnett’s success continued with the release of her second album, ‘Tell Me How You Really Feel’, in 2018, which explored more personal themes and showcased her growth as a songwriter and musician. She has also collaborated with other artists, including Kurt Vile on the album ‘Lotta Sea Lice’ in 2017.

Barnett’s success has earned her numerous accolades, including several ARIA Awards (Australia’s equivalent of the Grammy Awards) and a Brit Award nomination for ‘International Female Solo Artist’. She has also performed at major music festivals around the world, including Coachella, Glastonbury, and Lollapalooza.

Courtney Barnett is a talented and unique artist whose music has earned her a devoted following and critical acclaim. Her witty lyrics, outstanding guitar playing, and personal style have made her a beloved figure in the indie music scene, and her influence on the genre continues to grow.
