More About CBGB

CBGB stands for Country, BlueGrass and Blues, the genres founder Hilly Kristal originally intended the club to showcase before it became the epicentre of the American punk movement.
CBGB is famous for launching the careers of pioneering punk and new wave bands including the Ramones, Talking Heads, Blondie, Television and Patti Smith Group, making it one of the most influential music venues in history.
CBGB closed in 2006 after a lengthy rent dispute with its landlord. Although the original venue no longer exists, its legacy lives on through the artists it helped launch and its enduring influence on rock and alternative music.
