Leonard Cohen

Leonard Cohen was a Canadian singer-songwriter, poet, and novelist who rose to fame in the 1960s. Throughout his long and storied career, Cohen’s music explored themes of love and spirituality, earning him a devoted following and legendary status.

Born in Montreal in 1934, Cohen began his career as a poet before finally turning his attention to music in the late 1960s when he was in his 30s. Cohen’s first album, ‘Songs of Leonard Cohen,’ was released in 1967, quickly establishing him as a rising star in the folk music scene.

Over the next few years, Cohen elevated his stardom by releasing a string of critically acclaimed albums, including ‘Songs from a Room,’ ‘Songs of Love and Hate,’ and ‘New Skin for the Old Ceremony.’

Cohen’s music dealt with themes of love, loss, and spirituality and was often marked by melancholy and introspection, which became his trademark.

Throughout his career, Cohen was known for his commitment to his craft and uncompromising approach to his art. He continued to release albums and toured into his old age before he died in 2016.

In addition to his music, Cohen was also a celebrated poet and novelist. His poetry explored many of the same themes as his music.
In recognition of his contributions to music, Cohen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008 and was awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
